Sustainability
Hoffer Plastics understands our corporate responsibility to our surroundings. We started a 100% facility–wide recycling program in 2007 and continue to work towards a goal of zero waste. All plastic is segregated by type including any floor sweepings or contaminated materials. In 2010, we will use over 24,000,000 lbs of material and send less than 1% to the landfill. Additionally, all other materials from corrugated packaging, office paper or even aluminum soda cans are recycled. Our Lean packaging initiatives are working on decreasing the need for corrugated materials.
Hoffer Plastics has also invested in new 125-150 watt fluorescent fixtures in our warehouse. We added motion sensors to over 60% of the lights in non-main pathways, and Hoffer has seen an annual savings of $65,000. In addition, we use 7 electric fork trucks and 2 electric double haulers which have been shown to reduce emissions by up to 40%
Hoffer is also working with our customers to utilize post-consumer and post industrial resins were applicable. We are also incorporating the use of biodegradable and compostable resins in projects with our customers.
